GAV team

Description

The main objectives of the Grapevine Genetics and Breeding (GAV) team are to acquire knowledge and develop new methods and resources to create grapevine varieties that are durably resistant to diseases and produce high-quality wines in the context of climate change. To this end, it conducts research aimed at identifying key regions of the genome governing traits of agronomic interest (disease resistance; quality, productivity and adaptability traits), as well as developing modern breeding methods based on predictive approaches adapted to this species. The team is also working on the study of molecular interactions between grapevine and its pathogens. This research feeds into a breeding program led by the team, from the characterization of genetic resources and the identification of molecular markers linked to traits of agronomic interest, to the creation of elite genitors and the registration of varieties in the official catalog. The team has established partnerships with most of the major players in the French wine industry for the creation of new varieties with regional typicity.
