Description

The main objectives of the Grapevine Genetics and Improvement (GAV) team are to acquire knowledge and develop new methods and resources to create grapevine varieties that are durably resistant to disease and produce high-quality wines in the context of climate change. To this end, it conducts research aimed at identifying key regions of the genome governing traits of agronomic interest (disease resistance, quality traits, productivity and adaptability), and developing modern breeding methods based on predictive approaches adapted to this species. The team is also working on the study of molecular interactions between grapevines and pathogens. This research feeds into a varietal creation program led by the team, from the characterization of genetic resources and the identification of molecular markers linked to traits of agronomic interest, to the creation of elite genitors and the registration of varieties in the official catalog. The team has established partnerships with most of the major players in the wine world for the creation of new varieties with regional typicity.
